Niranthara Foundation, Mysore

Niranthara Foundation, Mysore, aims at and strives as a cultural medium to strengthen our cultural foundations and to find ways to improve education in search of quality and a people - driven society. Niranthara consists of a group of enthusiastic talented young people with a social commitment and who have been continuously offering creative and socially useful programs all across the state of Karnataka.

For many years now, Niranthara foundation has been active in theater, folk arts, literature and environment with a clear vision of social commitment.

Niranthara has participated in the protest against the Chamalapura thermal power project by creating awareness among people about the ill-effects of the project through street plays and documentary films. The foundation has been working with great concern about water and sanitation and have organized Karnataka's first ever 'Jala-Jatha' successful awareness program about rain-water harvesting in Bagalkote district.

Niranthara has produced well known plays like 'Kusumabale' by Devanur Mahadeva, 'Jalagara' and 'Kalki' by Kuvempu; Lankesh’s 'Muttisikondavaru'; Tejaswi's 'Maya Mriga' and 'Shariffa' by Manjunatha Belakere. A dance and music extravaganza 'Kudala Sangama' based on the vachanas by Basavanna with music by C.Ashwath has been presented by us 79 shows all across Karnataka. It has also presented Badal Sarkar's 'Bhoma' which deals with the problems of the peasants.

"Junjappa", Directed by Prasad Kundur. Nirantara Foundation introduced folk hero Junjappa to the audience through the play `Junjappa'. It was all about the challenges faced by folk heroes. The Foundation is also trying to preserve India's multi-cultural ethos. There are innumerable tales in folk culture about the fight against dominance of cultures from outside. These stories explain the resistance and hold mirror to history,

It has been conducting 'Sahaja Ranga' an annual theater workshop for college students. The main aim of 'Sahaja Ranga' is to bring the new generation face to face with different wings of the society

More recently Niranthara staged "Shivarathri", A play by Dr.Chandrashekar Kambara which is directed by Chidambara Rao Jambe (NSD) that touched many hearts of the city with its powerful dialogues that in turn connect with very present political scenario.
